abstract

background: in psychological studies, exposure to electromagnetic field is one of the hazardous factors, which has adverse effects on mental health. exposure to electromagnetic field due to daily use of electricity makes this study so important. the goal of this study was to determine the relationship between psychological symptoms and occupational exposure to electromagnetic field among workers at high voltage substations. methods: sampling included 103 workers at high voltage substations in tehran city. the prevalence of psychological symptoms was evaluated among electrical workers and the scl90-r questioner completed during an interview. the control group was not occupationally exposed to electromagnetic fields or not residence of transmission line. results: this study indicated increased symptoms including depression, anxiety, hostility, paranoia, interpersonal-sensitivity, and obsession- compulsion among exposed workers. a significant relationship was observed between the exposure of electromagnetic field and psychological symptoms ( p â  0.05). conclusion: exposure to electromagnetic field increased the risk of disorders in susceptible workers. for mental disorders, especially depression, the cognitive therapy is suggested.

Effect of occupational exposure to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields on level of thyroid hormones effective on fatigue

Background: The aim of this study was to assess exposure to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMFs) and its effects on secretion of thyroid hormones associated with symptoms of fatigue on electric arc welding workers. Methods: This study was carried out on two groups including 35 welders (as exposed) and 35 non-welders (as control). Extremely low frequency electromagnetic fie...

Biological effects of prolonged exposure to ELF electromagnetic fields in rats: III. 50 Hz electromagnetic fields.

Groups of adult male Sprague Dawley rats (64 rats each) were exposed for 8 months to electromagnetic fields (EMF) of two different field strength combinations: 5microT - 1kV/m and 100microT - 5kV/m. A third group was sham exposed. Field exposure was 8 hrs/day for 5 days/week. Blood samples were collected for hematology determinations before the onset of exposure and at 12 week intervals. At sac...

P-104: Effects of Prenatal Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields on Fertility of F1 Generation in In Vitro

Background: Electromagnetic fields interact with human tissues and may have adverse effects on fertility and reproduction. During the last decades there has been a growing concern on the effects of electromagnetic radiations on biological systems in general. Radiation risks from electromagnetic fields generated by processes such as reduced fertility and a significant decrease in implantation ra...
